On Thursday 5 February, Redbridge secondary schools came together for a special author event at Redbridge Town Hall to launch the Go All In – National Year of Reading. The occasion celebrated the joy of reading and writing and featured an exclusive visit from multi-award-winning author Nathanael Lessore also winner of the Redbridge Book Awards 2025.

Nathanael, acclaimed for his novels Steady For ThisKing of Nothing, and What Happens Online, delivered an engaging and interactive presentation to over 350 Key Stage 3 students from local Secondary Schools.  Nathanel shared practical tips on writing, story planning, and narrative structure, inspiring students to explore their creativity and develop their own unique voices.

The young audience were full of curiosity, asking questions ranging from Nathanael’s favourite aspects of writing to insights into his career as an author. The excitement continued at the end of the event with a book signing, where students eagerly collected personalised copies of his books.

This special event marked a perfect start to the Go All In – National Year of Reading, celebrating literature, creativity, and the magic of storytelling, and leaving students inspired to pick up a book or put pen to paper.

Reflecting on the event, Nathanael Lessore said:
“The young people were incredibly engaged and curious. It was fantastic to see so many eager to get their books signed and, most importantly, excited about reading. Schools and librarians are doing an amazing job sparking that enthusiasm for stories and writing.”
