The winners of the Harrow Junior Book Award 2025 were announced on Tuesday June 10th at a special award ceremony at Longfield primary school in Harrow. Children from 11 Harrow primary schools have voted The Island at the Edge of Night by Lucy Strange as their favourite book for 2025, with Alex vs Axel: The Impossible Quests by Sam Copeland and The Clockwork Conspiracy by Sam Sedgman following in second and third places.
Marking the climax of nine months of reading and reviewing by children in years 5 and 6 from across the Borough, the ceremony began with a warm welcome from the children of Longfield’s book club (pictured below) to guests of honour Councillor Anjana Patel, Mayor of Harrow, and distinguished author S F Said, winner of last year’s award with his fourth book, Tyger. Following an inspiring talk in which SF shared his top tips for writing, the Mayor presented him with the trophy for 2024, and the results of the children’s voting for 2025 were announced:
- In 1st place: The Island at the Edge of Night by Lucy Strange;
- 2nd place: Alex vs Axel: The Impossible Quests by Sam Copeland;
- 3rd place: The Clockwork Conspiracy by Sam Sedgman.
