This term, we were excited to launch our new book challenge for 2025/2026 – ‘7 for 7′, 7 books for Year 7 pupils. Our team of librarians choose some of the best books for Year 7 published in the last year, covering a range of genres and themes. Through the provision of multiple copies of the 7 titles and a range of digital discussion sheets, activities, competitions and author talks, we aim to inspire and motivate Year 7 students to be active readers, to develop and support reading for pleasure and awareness of new authors. Our school librarians absolutely love running this challenge each year, and they’re amazing at getting students motivated and engaged. We always have a virtual launch for school staff so they can pick up some great ideas from each other and to share their successes from the previous year.

Our books this year are:

  • Dark Flood by Karon Alderman
  • Relic Hamilton: Genie Hunter by Joseph Coelho
  • A history of my weird by Chloe Heuch
  • The line they drew through us by Hiba Noor Khan
  • The zombie project by Alice Nuttall
  • The boy with big decisions by Helen Rutter
  • Murder! By Narwhal! by Alex T. Smith

We send digital bookmarks, word searches, newsletters and keep the schools engaged throughout the year. We can’t wait to see what our Year 7’s think of our choice of books and to judge the competition entries they send to us which are always incredibly creative. Last year for our 8 for 8 Challenge for Year 8’s, we had songs, poems, reviews and even a fully decorated model house!
